Week 0 - Introduction

I'll start by saying that I've been on Livejournal for a long-ass time - almost a decade (how has this happened?). I have a lot of experience writing introductory posts. Unfortunately, looking back over them, I have to say that they're all pretty run-of-the-mill. Most of them even say the exact same things. Do you really care about my childhood? Honestly. I am wild and reckless and in my mid-twenties (well, I'm in my mid-twenties, anyway). Let's stay in the now.

So here's the now:

  • I am twenty-four years old.
  • I am a high school English teacher. It is often the bane of my existence, but I can't deny that it's been the source of some of my greatest joys.
  • I've married my complete and utter geekitude to a love of fashion and pop culture, becoming marginally socially acceptable in my ripe old age. I love both worlds unapologetically.
  • Unfortunately, I am still just as introverted and awkward as ever. Two steps forward, one step back. So it goes, so it goes.
  • Through use of my fledgling wiles, I managed to trap a pretty awesome guy into a relationship with me. He turned out to be a fellow undercover geekbot, which is probably why he puts up with my various idiosyncrasies. We have been together for a year and a half now.
  • I am intelligent, good-humored, and compassionate. I am also vain, weird, and quick-tempered. Fair's fair.

I think those are basically the salient points. I wish I could say that I am some kind of fabulous jet-setter with a successful career and cash to burn, but tragically I'm just another dippy kid finding her place in the world.

You are confusing and ridiculous and THAT IS WHY WE LOVE YOU.

WOO!

Wow, I can't believe it's already eighteen months for you guys. Time flies o.O

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? It's hard to believe for me sometimes, too! How is he not bored of me yet?

I would take vain, weird and quick-tempered in conjunction with those positives any time ^_^

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
All right! I'm glad someone will! ;)

This is so fantastic. You are so fantastic.

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
I know you are but what am I!

Awesome post, love your mood icon.

Thanks!

Aren't we all just dippy kids?

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Probably - some of us just pretend better than others!

[identity profile] sileri.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I had no idea you were a fashionista. I'll have to pay more attention to posts about your clothes.

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a cheaponista, really. I love all the big name stuff but can't afford it, so I seek out the more affordable knockoffs down the chain. I love to look, though!

[identity profile] alphaloria.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Jet-settery is overrated anyway. The ones who search are the ones who find and the ones who have the interesting stories to share.

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I have some interesting stories about my teenagers, anyway.

[identity profile] jenandbronze.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Nice to meet you. I have thought of a teaching career, but it fell through and went into the administrative profession; although, that has switched to a whole 360 turn altogether, pet sitting. LOL!

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I might be looking into administration soon myself! How did you like it?

Nice to meet you, too!

[identity profile] team-jessie.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
English teachers represent!

Kudos for tackling high school too! I did my student teaching there, then promptly fled to middle school. I was teaching Kindergarten by the time I left to have my own children (which, somehow, I still wanted after having been a teacher).

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always wondered what teaching middle school would be like! I've heard such conflicting reports on it. I could never do elementary, though - I admire you!

Welcoem to Idol. I am looking forward to reading more from you.

(and aren't we all just dippy kids trying to find our collective way in the world?)

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

(Probably... I like to think that I'll get the hang of it eventually, though! We'll just have to see!)

[identity profile] kutiechick.livejournal.com 2010-10-31 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay - loved your intro...being a 24 year old, former English Major geek myself - I was smiling the whole time! :)

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! And high five :) English geeks are the best (though I am biased, of course)! What do you do now?

Why, thank you!

Heh, this entry made me laugh. I look forward to learning more through your entries.

Thanks! Hopefully I can keep on bringing the laughs!

You sound like a pretty neat chick. I think we might have some things in common, including the girlyness.

I look forward to getting to know you more.

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I'm glad to meet another girly-girl on LJ! Most circles I run in are full of tough tomboy chicks - and I love 'em and think they're awesome, but sometimes I like a little straight-up chick talk.

Hurray for another introvert! I even get uncomfortable on LJ but I figure one step at a time and maybe I will learn not to be so awkward in my real life, too.

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I get uncomfortable on LJ, too, especially commenting on new journals. I've been really bad about commenting on these intros for that reason. Hopefully we will both come out of our shells a little bit this season :)

[identity profile] joeymichaels.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
From the perspective of somebody in their early 40's, I encourage you to wait until you're 25 to say "mid-20's." I know that's not entirely grammatically accurate, but enjoy being in your early 20's for as long as you can. :P

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Lucky for me I still only look about 16, so I can pretend to be in my early 20s for years to come!

[identity profile] solstice-singer.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's very nice to meet you. I adore literatur, but wouldn't have the patience to teach it to anyone. Somehow, I'm just not that type of person.

Good luck.

[identity profile] applespicy.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

Patience is definitely the quality to have as a teacher. I'm still working on mine, though!

Good luck to you as well :)
