Week 0 - Introduction

I'll start by saying that I've been on Livejournal for a long-ass time - almost a decade (how has this happened?). I have a lot of experience writing introductory posts. Unfortunately, looking back over them, I have to say that they're all pretty run-of-the-mill. Most of them even say the exact same things. Do you really care about my childhood? Honestly. I am wild and reckless and in my mid-twenties (well, I'm in my mid-twenties, anyway). Let's stay in the now.

So here's the now:

  • I am twenty-four years old.
  • I am a high school English teacher. It is often the bane of my existence, but I can't deny that it's been the source of some of my greatest joys.
  • I've married my complete and utter geekitude to a love of fashion and pop culture, becoming marginally socially acceptable in my ripe old age. I love both worlds unapologetically.
  • Unfortunately, I am still just as introverted and awkward as ever. Two steps forward, one step back. So it goes, so it goes.
  • Through use of my fledgling wiles, I managed to trap a pretty awesome guy into a relationship with me. He turned out to be a fellow undercover geekbot, which is probably why he puts up with my various idiosyncrasies. We have been together for a year and a half now.
  • I am intelligent, good-humored, and compassionate. I am also vain, weird, and quick-tempered. Fair's fair.

I think those are basically the salient points. I wish I could say that I am some kind of fabulous jet-setter with a successful career and cash to burn, but tragically I'm just another dippy kid finding her place in the world.

I would take vain, weird and quick-tempered in conjunction with those positives any time ^_^

Aren't we all just dippy kids?

I had no idea you were a fashionista. I'll have to pay more attention to posts about your clothes.

Jet-settery is overrated anyway. The ones who search are the ones who find and the ones who have the interesting stories to share.

Nice to meet you. I have thought of a teaching career, but it fell through and went into the administrative profession; although, that has switched to a whole 360 turn altogether, pet sitting. LOL!

English teachers represent!

Kudos for tackling high school too! I did my student teaching there, then promptly fled to middle school. I was teaching Kindergarten by the time I left to have my own children (which, somehow, I still wanted after having been a teacher).

Welcoem to Idol. I am looking forward to reading more from you.

(and aren't we all just dippy kids trying to find our collective way in the world?)

Yay - loved your intro...being a 24 year old, former English Major geek myself - I was smiling the whole time! :)

You sound much more interesting than a jet-setter. :)

Heh, this entry made me laugh. I look forward to learning more through your entries.

You sound like a pretty neat chick. I think we might have some things in common, including the girlyness.

I look forward to getting to know you more.

Hurray for another introvert! I even get uncomfortable on LJ but I figure one step at a time and maybe I will learn not to be so awkward in my real life, too.

From the perspective of somebody in their early 40's, I encourage you to wait until you're 25 to say "mid-20's." I know that's not entirely grammatically accurate, but enjoy being in your early 20's for as long as you can. :P

It's very nice to meet you. I adore literatur, but wouldn't have the patience to teach it to anyone. Somehow, I'm just not that type of person.

Good luck.
